massage traditions + modalities i draw from
the bodycraft approach
I don’t divide up sessions by modality - instead, I utilize all of my skills together as tools to help your body heal, and every client has access to all of those tools. We will work together to figure out which of those tools your body needs most.
You can learn more about all of my tools are here and see if you feel called to a specific modality. You are welcome and encouraged to make requests for specific techniques at any point before or during your session.

unwinding + aligning
Fascia is a form of connective tissue that surrounds every structure in your body in a web-like sheath. When fascia becomes dehydrated or constricted, it can inhibit the free movement of muscle fibers, leading to postural issues, limited mobility, and pain.
Myofascial release is a modality that specifically focuses on the fascia surrounding the skeletal muscles. In this modality, I use slow, sustained, stretching / shearing pressure, ranging from gentle to deep, that helps to rehydrate densified fascia and allow your body to more effectively heal itself.
These techniques also have a strong effect on the nervous system, stimulating receptors that respond to pressure and stretching, and freeing entrapped nerves from dense connective tissue, thereby helping to relieve pain.
-
targeted + transformative
The nervous system and the muscular system are deeply interconnected, and issues with one can have effects on the other. One such effect is the development of trigger points (aka, “knots”), which are contracted fibers of muscle tissue responding to sustained nerve impulses.
Trigger points in one area of the body can cause referred pain patterns in a completely different one due to their involvement with the nervous system.
Trigger point release can feel intense while it is happening, but the relief you feel afterwards makes it worth it.
With neuromuscular therapy, I will locate trigger points using detailed palpation skills and communication with you. Once found, I will use sustained, pin-point pressure to release the trigger point.
Often, you can tell a trigger point has released because of a “jump sign,” or a twitch in your muscle tissue. After a trigger point is released, tissue feels more loose, pliable, and supple.

Thai massage, also known as Thai yoga massage, is a combination of acupressure, gentle stretching, and joint mobilization that come together to strengthen your mind-body connection and improve mobility.
As much an energetic modality as it is a physical one, Thai massage is an ancient practice originating in Thailand. It is traditionally performed fully clothed on a mat on the floor, as opposed to on the table.
I often describe Thai massage as me “doing yoga to you.”
Thai massage is a great choice for clients who don’t feel comfortable undressing, or who want to improve their proprioception (understanding of where their body is in space).
While we can do an entirely mat-based session, I also incorporate Thai techniques into my table massage, especially when clients prefer to stay clothed.

After warming up and relaxing superficial layers of tissue, slow, sustained pressure allows me to dive deeper into the structures that lie below the surface.
While deep tissue features similar relaxing strokes seen in Swedish massage, it is going to use deeper pressure to access deeper layers of tissue, getting to the root of musculoskeletal issues.
-
Swedish massage is a gentle, relaxing massage using long, flowing strokes over the entire body. It is sometimes referred to as oil massage due to the use of oil or lotion that allows the therapist's hands to glide gracefully over the client's body.
A Swedish massage allows clients to sink into the table, leaving the stress of everyday life behind. Think that you need deep pressure to feel relief from your pain? Think again. Gentle swedish massage is effective at relieving pain and tension from injuries, health conditions, and stress.
